About

Born and raised in a small, coastal town in Maine, Tate was exposed early on to a fierce sense of community and connection with the environment around him. And much like many other kids with an endless curiosity, he was constantly asking “why?” This curiosity and love for the natural world stayed, but now he explores and asks the “whys” of life by capturing and sharing stories through film.

Tate began his career in visual media through time-lapse photography, seeking beautiful areas of the state of Maine and spending days far out in the backcountry under some of the darkest skies in the country. Over the past seven years, Tate has more closely focused on video production and editing and has developed his craft for storytelling through film. For Tate, crafting high quality stories and developing trust and collaborating throughout the creative process is key - how a film is created is just as important as what is being filmed.

In 2020, Tate graduated from University of Maine Orono with a B.A. in New Media. He has worked with groups such as L.L.Bean, Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries (MCCF), Maine Maritime Academy, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT), Schoodic Institute, and Blue Hill Heritage Trust, among others. His film “In Celebration of Open Space”, produced for Schoodic Institute, was selected for the 2020 Wild and Scenic Film Festival. His photography has been featured in Downeast Magazine and in L.L.Bean stores and product catalogs. In 2022, his documentary film “A Watershed Moment”, produced for MCCF and MCHT, was selected to be part of the Maine Outdoor Film Festival and received the Conservation Award during the festival.

Tate is currently a Freelance Videographer and Video Editor.
